Business Model Innovation.

Innovation can take many forms, from incremental improvements to transformative shifts such as business model innovation. The most profitable and innovative companies have mastered the art of systematically generating new business models, allowing them to tap into new markets, redefine industries, and create disruption.

One of the most surprising insights about business model innovation is that 90% of successful innovations are recombinations of existing ideas, concepts, or models, rather than entirely new creations. This underscores the power of learning from proven approaches and adapting them to fit new contexts.

To help my clients explore what business model innovation could mean for their organization, I use the Business Model Navigator framework, developed by researchers at the University of St. Gallen. This framework identifies 55 distinct business model patterns—proven strategies that can serve as a starting point for innovation. Together, we analyze these patterns, identify opportunities for recombination, and define a tailored approach to explore and implement new business models.

Bringing a new business model to life is not a quick process. It requires more than a few workshops—it’s a journey that often takes years of iterative work. The foundation for success lies in crafting an inspiring vision and assembling a committed team that can navigate the challenges of experimentation, refinement, and scaling.

I support organizations in this process by:

  • Facilitating the exploration of business model patterns and identifying those with the greatest potential.

  • Guiding temporary innovation teams to develop and test ideas within a structured framework.

  • Helping teams generate tangible outcomes through iterative cycles of learning and adaptation.

Business model innovation is a long-term investment, but its rewards—new revenue streams, stronger competitive positioning, and the ability to lead in a changing market—are well worth the effort.

All businesses will see the day when they need new business models. Be prepared and let’s explore together your future avenues of growth.
